In the mood…for gratitude.

So as 2018 comes to a close, I’d just like to obsess a little more on something that is SO important. It’s not just important to my life, or my daily practice of meditation and yoga, but it’s important to EVERYONE.

Gratitude…

No matter what is going on your life GRATITUDE can always be practiced. Even when you feel you are at your lowest, there is ALWAYS something to be grateful for. Being grateful for the little things, even at the worst times, is what attracts the larger and more enriching things into your life.

Things are not always a bed of roses but it’s the practice of accepting ALL of life, and it’s lessons, that makes a huge difference in how you feel.

This year has given me so many amazing opportunities, changes and new ways of thinking. I am happier than I have EVER been in my life and I am grateful for everyone who has been along with me on this journey. I have had my ups and downs but gratitude has always been my secret weapon.

Now, I could list and list the ways gratitude can help but Google will provide you with a ton of sites, blogs and books you can research endlessly. So, in this blog, I’d just like to just share some of the ways I practice…

Start your morning with gratitude – Every day when you wake up say 3 things you are grateful for. Now, do this before you pick up your phone to look at Facebook, or take a shower, or wake up the kids. Open your eyes and say out loud (or to yourself) 3 things you are thankful to have in your life.

These can be ANYTHING!

“Im grateful for my kids”, “I’m grateful to have all my limbs”, “I’m grateful for this bed”…ANYTHING! When you bring your energy to something you are grateful for the world around begins to transform. It allows you to vibrate at a higher level that’s full of love and positivity before you even get out of bed.

Even if you are not feeling so well when you wake up…find something. Even if you are sad…find something. Even if you have recently gone through a tragedy…find something. Don’t skip a single day.

If you are alive and breathing, then you have something to be grateful for.

Do this every morning (and before bed) and try to find 3 DIFFERENT things everyday…try not to repeat the same things too much. Challenge yourself!

Being grateful for what you have when times are tough doesn’t mean you don’t want more. Gratitude helps recognize things can be “bad” or “good” yet we still reassure the deeper parts of ourselves that this is ALL part of this beautiful thing we call “life”.

There is no “good” or “bad” it’s just all in how you look at it.

This bring me to my next one…

Start a gratitude jar – Along with your practice of “3 things every morning” start writing them down.

Whenever you think of something you are grateful for write it down on a tiny piece of paper, fold it and throw it in a mason jar or clear bowl of some sorts. In no time you will see this jar start to fill and fill!

The idea of this is to help you realize how much you ACTUALLY have in this life. When people have a bad day they seem to pull themselves directly toward self-pity, forget what they have and focus ONLY on what they DON’ T have. The jar will help you realize a bad day is just that…a bad day. Tomorrow everything is brand new!

Put this jar somewhere you can see it easily! Have you kids start their own! Young kids, especially, love doing this! ( :

Start a vision board – If you don’t know what a vision board is then you are missing out. I have a white dry erase board mounted in my kitchen. On this board I have EVERY goal that I want to accomplish for the year. At the beginning of the year I set a vision, write down my goals and put them in a spot where I see them EVERYDAY.

I can tell you, just writing them down starts the universal wheel spinning. I’m not going to go into to much detail on this because you can Google how to make one. There are a million different ways to create a vision board and what to add to it. Some people tack pictures of places they want to go. Some people tack photos of the bodies they want, or the career they want…etc. It’s all up to you and what you want to accomplish. Take a peek at some on the internet and try it out!

I will tell you that EVERY SINGLE THING I wrote down on that board I either accomplished, or I am in the midst of accomplishing. It works and it’s one thing I will continue to do forever.

If you are asking “What does this have to do with gratitude?” I’ll tell you. I am grateful that I have the opportunities to be able to accomplish those goals. I am grateful I live in a country, and a body, that allows me to be able to do the things I want to do.

Try it!

Thank EVERYTHING! – You might think this is strange but thank EVERYTHING you see. This means as you walk past a tree, thank it. Thank it for being there and providing oxygen. Thank it for making the earth more beautiful. Thank the dirt, thank the grass, thank the clouds!

You don’t need to say it out loud and look like a crazy person, lol…just say it silently…it takes a second.

We are connected to EVERYTHING. We are born of earth and when we die we will become earth once more. Giving gratitude to everything allows that deeper part of yourself to recognize this truth.

We tend to take a lot of what we see everyday for granted. It’s those things that provide us life. We are being supported by everything around us and we are dependent on more than you realize.

Give thanks to EVERYTHING and watch how abundant your life will become ( :
